Professional Development

Documented Regulatory Standards Credit: at least 1 hour

Documented Regulatory Standards credits can be earned through instruction on any of the following topics: OSHA/Infection Control; QS/GMP (quality systems/good manufacturing processes); HIV/AIDS; Ergonomics; HIPAA; Hazard Communication, Bloodborne Pathogen Standards, Emergency Action Plans, Respiratory Protection, Lockout/Tagout or PPE. Additional courses in this area may be counted towards the Professional Development credit requirement.

Documented Scientific Credit: at least 6 hours

Documented Scientific credits include scientific and technical courses or clinics. At least three hours of documented Scientific credits must be earned through attendance at NBC-approved courses. ADA CERP and AGD PACE approved scientific or technical courses are considered to be NBC-approved. Additional courses in this area may be counted towards the Professional Development credit requirement.

Professional Development Credit: up to 5 hours

Once the Scientific and Regulatory Standards credit requirements are fulfilled, the balance of the CDT continuing education requirements may be earned through documented or non-documented studies. Subjects that enhance performance or knowledge for your laboratory business or skills, but are not specifically scientific or technical in nature, qualify for Professional Development credit. This may be earned through attendance at non-approved or undocumented clinics, independent study of publications or videotapes, or other activities that can be identified as contributing to dental technology skill and knowledge. Topics can include a multitude of subjects. Some of the most common include:

  • Management and Finance
  • Communication Skills
  • Instructional Techniques

CDT's who wish to claim one hour of credit per hour of study in qualifying subjects may submit proof of participation from the program sponsor or a self-attestation requesting credit with a description of the program. If self-study is preferred, topics studied and materials used should be submitted to the NBC with a request for Professional Development credit hours.
