Module Exam Info & Outline The NBC Modularization program examinations assess the competency of process/task technicians who perform a specific set of tasks needed to make dental prosthetics. A Modularization "Certificate of Competency" is earned once a candidate has completed a written and practical exam in the module that they have chosen. There are twelve (12) Modules within the five (5) specialty areas recognized by the NBC. Click here for a Module outline or download the Modularization Program Handbook and Applications. The written module examination is a multiple-choice examination. There are 50 questions on each examination and candidates will have up to one (1) hour to complete each written examination. The practical module examinations require that the candidate follow specific directions to illustrate the required skills. A dentist or a CDT must verify that the work is the candidate's own through a signed affidavit. The candidate submits his or her work through mail for grading by specially trained NBC Examiners. A candidate who successfully earns "Certificates of Competency" for all of the modules in a given specialty area within four years and who wishes to become a CDT can receive a waiver for the CDT written specialty exam. To earn the CDT designation, the technician must successfully pass the CDT written comprehensive exam and the CDT practical exam (in the same specialty area) within four (4) years of the date that the final "Certificate of Competency" was earn in that specialty.
