Kreyer Named 2011 CDT of the Year

We asked you to tell us about the Certified Dental Technicians who inspire you. Those CDTs who think more of helping others than themselves, who share their knowledge and abilities with others and who help propel the dental laboratory technician profession forward. You nominated CDTs who made a difference, and this year Robert E. Kreyer, CDT stood out.
Kreyer is the winner of the NBC's 2011 CDT of the Year. Kreyer just started working at Microdental - DTI in Dublin, CA as the Director of Removeable Prosthodontic, prior to that he owned his own laboratory Kreyer Dental Prosthetics for the past 32 years.. He has been a Certified Dental Technician for 8 years and is certified in Complete Dentures. He has been in the industry for 41 years.
He is a third generation dental technician and received his training from the US Army Medical Field Service School and education as member of various Prosthodontic study groups at the University of California San Francisco and University of Southern California. He is a member of the American Prosthodontic Society and past Chair of the American College of Prosthodontists Dental Technician Alliance. Kreyer is a continuing education provider for the Dental Board of California and is an approved speaker by the National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology. He is a BPS Technical Instructor for Ivoclar Vivadent and has written numerous articles on removeable prosthodontics.
In 2005 Kreyer became the first certified instructor in the United States for Candulor in Zurich, Switzerland. Then in 2008 Kreyer took one week of examinations in Schaan, Lichtenstein and became the first certified Biofunctional Prosthetic System Technical instructor for Ivoclar Vivadent in the United States.
"I am very proud to be a certified dental laboratory technician specializing in removable prosthodontics and honored just to be nominated for the 2011 CDT of the Year Award. To work in the dental laboratory technology profession with technologists that are passionate about prosthetics, while possessing the ability to make a difference in someone's life, is truly a blessing."
In 2008, the National Board for Certificate in Dental Laboratory Technology created the annual CDT of the Year award to recognize an individual Certified Dental Technician. We know that all CDTs have already gone above and beyond what they have to do to be a dental technician by obtaining their CDT designation. This award is meant to recognize those CDTs who have given back to the profession by acting as mentors, innovators, amazing technicians or examples to strive to be like.
The award winner must have made outstanding contributions to the dental laboratory profession and have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Certified Dental Technicians, Active Retired CDTs, Permanently Retired CDTs and Recognized Graduates could nominate an active CDT for this award.
There were a number of qualified candidates nominated. All of those submissions ranked closely on the judging point scale and each nominee made significant contributions to the professions. The nominees were ranked according to a point scale using the following criteria:
- Years in the profession
- Employment capacity or title
- Professional certification or degrees
- Continuing education or activities attended
- Activities or achievements in the dental laboratory profession on behalf of NBC
- Activities, community service or achievement in the dental laboratory profession
- Non- dental technology community service
The NBC awards committee reviewed the nominations and determined the winner. We hope the CDT of the Year Award will go a long way to publicly recognizing the influence many of you had on your fellow technicians. It's a wonderful chance for you to honor those influential people who've helped shape your perspective on this great profession.
NBC is honored to recognize Kreyer as the 2011 CDT of the Year. Please join us at the NADL Vision 21 meeting Jan 20 - 22 at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev. As we recognize his contributions.
