From Modules to Certified Dental Technician (CDT) Certification A candidate who successfully passes all of the module exams in a specified specialty (both the written and practical), entitle the candidate to receive a waiver of having to take the CDT written specialty exam, if all the modules and the CDT written comprehensive and practical exams in the same specialty are completed within a four (4) year period. You would also have to meet all the other CDT candidate criteria, such as the experience/education requirement and not being found guilty of the illegal practice of dentistry to become a CDT. The waiver of the CDT written specialty examination begins with the four(4) year completion time limitfrom the time the candidate passes the first modularization examination in a specialty until completing the last CDT examination.
