Certificate of Competency The modularization examinations given by the NBC are a result of an industry demand for those technicians who focus their work on a specific activity on the manufacturing of dental devices. There is value to the industry to have a mechanism for determining the ability of such workers and to enable them to demonstrate their skill level to employers, dentists and themselves by earning a "Certificate of Competency" for the subset of work in which they specialize. This can be accomplished once a candidate has completed the module requirements of both a written and practical exam. For example: Within the Crown and Bridge specialty there are three (3) modules subsets you can take an examination in. They are:
In order to receive the "Certificate of Competency" you must complete both the written and practical module examination in Module 1. Models, Casts and Dies There will no expiration date on your "Certificate of Competency", unless you decide to use the completion of all module written and practical examinations as a waiver of your CDT written specialty examinations. See From Modules to CDT Certification The NBC Modularization program is NOT a certification program, although it is one pathway for entering into the Certified Dental Technician certification. Candidates who successfully complete the module examinations will not be required to renew, submit proof of continuing education or pay annual renewal fees.
