Thank you for your interest in the National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology's Modularization Program.

Through extensive market research and the drive of our industry leader, the NBC Board of Trustees has determined that there would be benefit in having a program to verify the skill set of dental technicians in various modules (which are sub-categories) of the five specialties.

There are an estimated 42,000 dental technologists in the United States. Of these technicians, over 6,000 are currently active Certified Dental Technicians (CDTs). Many of the 35,000 non-CDTs lack the formal educational foundation in dental technology and focus their work on a specific activity in the manufacture of dental devices.

The NBC Modularization Program is designed to verify or validate the applied skills and knowledge a dental technician must possess in a specific area of production. Recognition for passing a module shows an employer or dentist that the technician has shown at least a certain level of applied skill and knowledge to work in that area of producing a dental prosthetic by receiving a Certificate of Completion.
