CDTs, having that are no longer actively working in the dental technology
field, are given two options for continuing to retain their certification:
"Active Retired" (RET) - They may opt to change their CDT status to Active Retired and
continue to receive the JDT, mailings and other NBC benefits. They
will receive a card designating their retired status with expiration
date sticker to place on their certificate at the time of their next
renewal. They are applying for active retirement with the
understanding that they will be invoiced a $65 annual renewal fee and
are not required to obtain continuing education credits for renewal,
unless they wish to become a speaker.
"Permanent Retired" (PER) - Or, they may opt to change their CDT status to Permanent Retired.
Under this option they will be unable to return to active CDT status
and will not receive the JDT, mailings and other NBC benefits. NBC
will send a card designating their permanent retired status and a
permanent retired sticker to place on their certificate. They will not
have to renew annually.
A CDT who retires (becomes a RET) and wishes to retain NBC approval as a speaker must meet the continuing education requirements for CDT renewal.
Requests for changes from "Active Retired" to "Active" status may be approved by the Director of Certification, without payment of additional fees for the years of "retired" certification, provided that:
Such change is requested within four years of granting the original "retired" rating; and
Satisfactory documentation is submitted to verify actual retirement at the time it was claimed, the absence of employment as a dental technician following the retirement date, and the individual's re-employment date.
