Recertification

Candidates who successfully complete the RG examination will be issued RG certificates by NBC. An annual renewal due each September is required with the RG designation with a maximum of four renewal cycles. Renewal invoices are mailed out to each RG approximately three months prior to renewal.

Effective for the 2008 renewal, the National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology Board of Trustees determined that Recognized Graduates (RG) will resume having to maintain continuing education to renew their designation.

The new requirement consist of 1 hour Regulatory Standards and 5 additional hours in any of the following areas: Documented Scientific, Professional Development, non-Documented Credit or Regulatory Standards.

The NBC strongly recommends that you continue to take continuing education to be up-to-date with new technology and modern techniques. It will also help you to prepare to become a Certified Dental Technician.
As a reminder, Recognized Graduates have four years to take to substitute the RG examination for the Comprehensive Examination and pass the other exams (Written Specialty and the Practical Exam) to become a CDT.

After four years, the RG would need to take and pass all three examinations to achieve the CDT status.

To maintain the RG designation, one would need to submit their annual renewal along with continuing education requirements.
