Interested in becoming a speaker for NBC approved courses?
If you are interested in providing an NBC-approved course,
all you need to do is complete the NBC
Course Approval Request Form and we'll do the rest. Each application
requires the course title and a description of content. An outline of
the class content is much appreciated, and may be requested if sufficient information
is not included on the application. If we need additional information
(such as a biography or course outline), we will contact you.
If your questions are not addressed below, please feel free to contact Elizabeth

Why should I be a speaker? What benefit will I see?
In addition to being recognized by your peers as an authority on your field,
NBC recognizes that speakers are an important component of NBC approved
continuing education. We recognize the hours of time that you spend developing
and presenting the courses. To reward your hard work, NBC offers double-credit
to speakers for each of the courses that they teach. To ensure these
double credits are added to your account, please complete two scan cards
following each course and forward them to NBC with the attendees scan cards.
Who can be a speaker?
Anyone who is a current CDT, DMD, DDS or approved “foreign-credentialed” laboratory
technician, or who can document completion of a post-secondary education
in a dental-related topic (usually through a biography, summary CV or diploma)
is welcome to present Scientific, Professional Development or Regulatory
Standards courses.
Any instructors who wish to present only Professional Development courses
may do so on request in their area of expertise.
How much does it cost?
Current CDTs and NADL members are entitled to free NBC course approvals. All
others must pay a $40.00 fee per course. A rush fee of $25.00 is assessed
if a request form is received within ten business days of the program date.
What are the different types of courses?
Regulatory
Standards (used to be OSHA/Infection Control) Regulatory Standards
courses provide instruction in quality, safety and workplace health issues. Topics
may include Quality System/Good Manufacturing Practices (QS/GMP), HIV/AIDS,
HIPPA, Hazard Communication, Bloodborne Pathogen Standards, Emergency Action
Plans, Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory Protection, Ergonomics, CPR and Personal
Protective Equipment. For more information, click
here.
Scientific/Technical-
Commonly referred to as “Scientific” courses, theses courses
provide instruction of a scientific or technical nature that are specific
to the practice of dental technology.
Professional Development - Professional Development courses
are those that enhance
the professional skills of the technician, laboratory supervisor or manager. Topics
could include business management, speaking or writing, data processing,
marketing and many others.
How many CEs do CDTs need to earn?
The 12 annually
required CE include 1 Regulatory Standards credit, 6 Scientific/Technical
credits (at least 3 of which must be approved by the ADA, the AGD and/or
the NBC) and 5 additional credits which may consist of Professional Development,
extra Regulatory Standards or extra Scientific/Technical credits (formal pre-approvals
are not necessary for these additional credits).
How long does it take to get an approval?
NBC will process your approval application as quickly as possible. However,
due to seasonal 'surges' and the possibility of unforeseen difficulties,
NBC requests that applications be submitted at least 30 days prior to the program
date. If not received within ten business days of the program date, a
rush fee of $25.00 will be assessed. If expedited shipping is required
for Scan Cards due to a late application, an additional charge may apply. Approvals
usually take about fifteen days.
If I will be offering the same course three times, do I need to submit three
NBC Course Approval Request forms?
No! If you will be teaching the same course (same content, title, instructor
and duration) at different times or locations, only one application need be
used and NBC would grant a 'blanket' approval. With 'blanket' approvals,
only one Course Number will be assigned for use with all of those courses
during a calendar year.
How often do I have to renew my approval?
A new application, for regular or blanket approvals, is required for each
calendar year.
